The Passing of Baroness Zerilli-Marimò

The Director, the Personnel and the Advisory Board of Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, along with the Chair, Faculty, Students and Staff of the Department of Italian Studies at New York University, announce with great sadness the passing of the founder of Casa Italiana, Baroness Mariuccia Zerilli-Marimò. Always a passionate supporter of Italian culture, in 1988 she purchased the former house of General Winfield Scott and turned it into Casa Italiana, which opened its doors to the public in 1990, allowing for the establishment of a self-standing Department of Italian Studies at New York University, now ranked one of the best in the US. NYU made her a Life Trustee and she continued to chair the Advisory Board of Casa Italiana until her death, on October 17, 2015 at 89 years of age.
