A former journalist, Antonio Tajani is among the co-founders of the Forza Italia party. He was first elected to the European Parliament in 1994, a position he maintained through 2008. In 2017, he was elected President of the European Parliament – the first Italian to hold the office since 1979. Following the October 2022 general elections in Italy, Tajani was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government led by current Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
