Music for Interesting Times celebrates the Holidays with a triple bill of creative responses to lockdown. Marco Ambrosini comes to us from his home in Italy playing the Nyckelharpa, a Swedish fiddle unlike any you’ve seen before. Laksmi Scalise sounds her Tibetan bowls live from Casa Italiana’s neighbor, the Integral Yoga Institute on West 13th Street. Ginevra Petrucci, a third-generation flautist, makes everything old new again, performing Bach into moderns on her flauto d’amore. Hosted by Gina Crusco.

Marco Ambrosini debuted as a soloist and Nyckelharpa player at La Scala, Milan. He studied violin and composition at the Musical Institute “G.B.Pergolesi” in Ancona and the Conservatory “G. Rossini” in Pesaro. Marco’s performances include concerts for the Royal Swedish Concert Agency, Alte Oper Frankfurt, orchestras in Cologne, Berlin, Moscow, and in New York’s Carnegie Hall. He is an ECM recording artist.

Rev. Laksmi Scalise works with sound, using gongs, Tibetan bowls and chanting, to bring clarity and balance to her listeners. She began her Yoga practice in 1975 and is now an Integral Yoga‒certified teacher and Reiki master teacher. Rev. Laksmi has been a senior teacher under Grand Gong Master Don Conreaux for the past nine years.

Ginevra Petrucci is principal flutist with the Chamber Orchestra of New York and has also appeared as soloist with I Pomeriggi Musicali and I Virtuosi Italiani. She has collaborated with George Crumb, Steve Reich, and Kaija Saariaho, and in 2018 founded the Flauto d’Amore Project to create new repertoire for this instrument. She holds a DMA from Stony Brook University and degrees from Yale, and Santa Cecilia Conservatory in her native Rome.

Music for Interesting Times presents creative responses to lockdown through conversation and live musical performance with artists as nearby as Casa Italiana’s home in the West Village and as distant as Italy and beyond.
